HELPFUL TIPS AND ADVICE FOR THE CLIMB.
|
Fitness and Altitude
Although no mountaineering experience or skills are
required for Kilimanjaro a certain amount of physical
fitness is necessary.
Altitude sickness often occurs at Kibo the third
and highest hut. It is important to take the advice
of your guide on whether he thinks you are fit to
continue at any stage. The guides are very experienced
and know well the signs of severe altitude sickness.
Good advice is to take it easy on the whole climb
and to enjoy the unique flora and fauna on the trek
up the mountain. There are also a lot of birds and
animals to see. Go "Pole Pole"- slowly slowly
and rest every hour. There is no need to rush and
this will help to acclimatize your body better, and
you will have more chance of being fully acclimatized
for the last and most strenuous section to Uhuru Peak.
